Fashionably Late
Thursday, May 28, 2009 - Gene Bromberg
Of course Phil Hellmuth is known for showing up late–very late–for poker tournaments, but many players choose to arrive after the festivities commence to give the crowds a chance to disperse and the madness to subside. One play who was a bit tardy today was Annie Duke, who just took her seat at Table #77 alongside such formidable foes as Nam Le, Tim Phan, Alexander Kostritsyn, Kido Pham, and Alex Jacob.
I was trying to take a picture of Annie when she stood up and took a picture herself. In fact, she took a pic of Andy Bloch’s table and then sent a Tweet of the photo. And here I am posting a picture of her taking a Twitpic on a blog. We live in a strange, strange world:

Once that was done Annie took her seat and got down to the serious business of playing in the biggest Hold-Em event of the year.

At the moment 192 players ponied up the $40,000 to play in the tournament, a bit below expectations but still a heck of a lot of people with forty grand at the ready. Still no sign of Phil, maybe after the first break.
