Another Day at the Office

Friday, June 12, 2009 - Gene Bromberg

Day 15 of the World Series of Poker (I think it’s Day 15) and it’s business as usual at the Rio. A final table just finished up, another still has hours to go before we discover the champion, and three other tournaments will play deep into the night. As I said, business as usual.

Several Team UB players find themselves in familiar circumstances this Thursday night–they’re sitting at a poker table, and the plan is to be sitting there for four or five more hours. Michael Binger is among the final 21 players in the $10,000 No-Limit Deuce-to-Seven event, and from the looks at it he’s made himself comfortable:

After returning to Las Vegas last night Phil Hellmuth arrived a bit late (well, more than three hours late) for the start of today’s $1,500 No-Limit Hold-Em. And after an early double up (and getting Queens cracked a bit later) Phil sits with around 10,000 chips with the field winnowed to a bit less than 600:

The evening tournament tonight was the $2,500 Omaha/Seven Card Stud Hi/Lo 8-or-better event, surely the longest-titled event in the World Series of Poker. Brandon Cantu is playing in this event, so is Hollywood Dave Stann, and so is Annie Duke, fresh off her final table in the $10,000 Omaha/8 World Championship event. Annie’s found a lot of success in the split-pot tournaments so far (and in the past) so this may be another long night (and deep run) for her.
