Viva WSOP 2009
Friday, June 5, 2009 - UB Marketing
All the buzz is about WSOP, and for good reason. We have more players at WSOP this year than any other year. The UltimateBet swag-bags are ready for you to pick up in the Phil Hellmuth suite at the Bellagio, so make sure you stop by in between playing poker, chilling at the pool, and eating at the AAA 5-diamond restaurants. The first player has already registered for the $10M bonus promo and is proud to wear our sweet 10th Anniversary gear. The tables at the Rio are going to be full of yellow and black this year.
In other marketing news, we are adding a ‘Daily Specials’ page to the UB site that helps players sort through the packed list of games and tourneys available through the software client, and find the short list of the best events we are offering for that particular day. This page allows you to browse through the upcoming days of the week as well to help you plan your schedule and find the best of what’s available for any given day. Be on the lookout for this feature in the Promotions section of the site.
Tournament Leaderboards have had a power surge and are getting more action than ever. We’re now offering over $1,000,000 in prizes and added $80K to the MTT Yearly leaderboard alone. We are giving players money for doing what they do best, play poker. Find out more info here.

Hello,
I won a seat to the wsop main event on the Step Tournamnet,
but with no real tournament experience in the brick and mortar world, I thought it would just be a waste of money.
So I decided to play several smaller tournaments first,
First I went to new Orleans, where I took out a small advance against my savings account… the bet was to make the money in some of the tournamnets, get experience and then still have the funds to go play the main event….
New Orleans was a disaster…0-4, 4 thousand down the drain…and most frustrating 4 days of card dead playing…
Also I realized just how good players are….and how bad players are….yea donks play the brick and mortar events too…
I gave up on playing the main event…an event that I thought of playing for years… but I always figured if I was not good enough to win a seat…then I was not good enough to play it…I was finally good or lucky enough to win a seat…but no good enough to win a live tournament…
My UB buddy Markfb talked me into going to play an event at the wsop with the remaining funds… I said no way… but at the last minute changed my mind and said what the heck…maybe I dont play at the main event…but I play at a WSOP event… I entered event 7……man what a roller coaster of a ride….The first day… made alot of chips and lost alot of chips….got a lot of experience…and heck made it to the 2nd day….
The 2nd day saw me make it to the money…. and as I was creeping up in the numbers…I actually let it cross my mind…I got a chance to make it to the final table..
That dream burnt and crashed when I went out….but I made the money and finished 47th…Not bad for a brick and mortar novice… and a self proclaimed donk….
I had a wild ride in event 7 and it was definitely worth the experience….. from bad beats to long shot rivers coming my way to save my tournament life…to getting irrated at a big blind thief…then trying to teach him a lesson but to be taught a lesson instead…ending up crippling myself very early betting into his quads he hit on the flop… so much for teaching him a lesson…
It was a blast…and best of all …the main event is back on the table…
If you have a chance …I definitely suggest playing a wsop event….it is poker at its best and worst…. think about getting all those undernourished, underslept, grumpy people together…tempers do flare….I understand Mr. Helmuth’s outburst now…after two 14 hour days of playing…i got grumpy as heck myself…telling a grumpy tournament director that he was not the only one that was tired and seeing double…so lighten up.
So in conclusion…go and enjoy the best adrenalin rushs you can get playing poker…you will get em… even when you are being knocked out…
