Week 3 @ the WSOP

Tuesday, June 16, 2009 - Miss C

Hey All,

Boy doesn’t time fly here in Vegas? It has been a good week, a quiet week! (I don’t think I saw the sun come up this week:))  This is going to be quite somber compared to the last couple but nevertheless it is all still happening. The WSOP has seen 30+ tournaments been played and I hate to count how many others there are throughout Vegas.

The weather here in Vegas has been really bearable and not that over the top heat it normally has. It has been very overcast, but still warm. I think we are all waiting for the sky high temperatures to happen and like everything else in Vegas I expect it to happen over night.  Since my home is Bellagio and I refuse to drive here (well I can’t drive here , but that is another story for another blog) I have been getting taxis everywhere. They have upped the price of cab fares and now a minimum fair would be $10. They are also doing road work all over the place. I have never seen as much construction in this town as I have seen on this trip. The county have a lot to answer for when they do road work on Flamingo and Tropicana at the same time, it makes no sense at all. Okay that is my vent for this week.

On the poker side though, Annie Duke did really well in Event 18 – Omaha HiLo 8 or Better 10K. Annie finished 8th out of 179 players and picked up $58049 for the trouble. UB’s latest addition – Liv Boeree made the money of Event 28 – No Limit Holdem and came 57th out of 2638, for her efforts she picked up $7237. Liv is coming to us off a great run at the Bellagio and WPT tournament here in Vegas in April. We welcome her to the team!

The party hype in Vegas is starting to show its head. The week leading up to the Main Event is generally the week when companies in the business throw a party. This is the time I need a social coordinator so I know where to go each night. It is not unusual to have to go to 3-4 parties in the same night. Agh the joys. Remember to put Monday, June 29th in your calendar as it is UB’s party at Studio 54 at the MGM. The party will start at 9pm and Phil will be giving away an Aruba Poker Classic package inclusive of a ticket for 2, to his VIP  party to be held in the penthouse at the Radisson Aruba.

Okay till next week, hope the cards work for you.

Cheers,

Miss C

Week 2 @ the WSOP

Tuesday, June 9, 2009 - Miss C

Hey All,

Here comes the close of another week in Vegas. In my last post I mentioned that people were flooding into town and on a personal side, one of my good friends from London flew in and boy did he fly in, in a major way. I am going to call him “Fred” so we don’t incriminate anyone! Just a little bit of background for you…we met a couple of years ago at the Aussie Millions and we have been in touch since then and hence I have not seen him in a year and a half. This time round he brings a mate and we will call him “Adam”, so we all catch up for a beverage. Well that beverage turned into a table at The Bank including a magnum of Dom Perignon Rose, a bottle of Stoli and a few shots. Did I tell you there was only 5 of us out that night? All I know is I saw the sun come up and I thank god that I don’t get hangovers! It is unbelievable how the happenings of Vegas almost seem normal here? On the downside I did lose my camera:(

You know that saying “When in Rome”, well “When in Vegas” a good friend of mine, Robert Williamson III has introduced me to something new…..a meal in a bottle – Corona with lime and hot sauce in it and guess what….I like it! He has been doing this for as long as I have known him and I am sure I have tried a sip here and there throughout the years, but now here at this moment, it has become my (meal) drink of choice. I know a lot of you have just wrinkled your nose, but all I can say is don’t knock it till you try it.

On the poker front the numbers have been good, Phil Ivey won his 6th bracelet and the Venetian Deep Stack Series is very appealing. So appealing that I may take my 1st day off in just over a fortnight and play. All this poker and I am eager to get in there. The ladies event at the Series this year saw 1060 females take their seats looking for the one and only female bracelet, not bad at a K a pop. The numbers didn’t surprise me, but what did was the rail during this event…it was packed. I actually saw more people railing than in most of the other tournaments. Go the girls!

Not sure why, but I cannot sleep well in Vegas. I can’t seem to get to bed before 4am. My aim for Week 3 @ the WSOP is to get to bed at a normal hour and have a good 8 hours.

Good Luck to All!

Cheers,

Miss C

Week 1 @ the WSOP

Tuesday, June 2, 2009 - Miss C

Hey Guys,

Survived! The 1st week at the WSOP has been great. I totally feel at home (a friend called the other night and asked where I was, my reply was “Home” and then I started laughing and said “Bellagio” which I guess really is home for the WSOP) and I am looking forward to a Week 2. The 1st social event on the calendar was Annie’s “Sucking out on the Rivers” Charity Poker Tournament. It was a great night with some fantastic Joan Rivers impersonators and also some really scary Joan Rivers impersonators. As with life you have to take the good with the bad:)

Everything I wanted to do in Vegas got achieved in the 1st week. This is definitely an omen and the following weeks can and will only get better. The sales have started here and I have had a chance to visit a few shops and make a few purchases (3 pairs of shoes [2 x CL & 1 x Havaianas], 4 tops and 2 pairs of pants Thought I would get it in before it got absolutely hectic and I start struggling to get out of bed. On the topic of beds, I think I have found a piece of heaven…the beds at Bellagio rock, it is like sleeping on a cloud.

So far the numbers at the Series have been good. The 40K (Event 2) got 201 runners, fairly impressive for the 1st big one on the season. The “stimulus package” tournament (Event 4 NLHE 1K) blew itself out of the water (it was predicted to do so anyway). If this trend continues the payouts are going to be great and the lead up events definitely worth playing. When playing you should be wearing the UB swag, all the gear is really cool and the hats are the best I have ever seen. To get your swag, come to Bellagio, find a house phone and ask to be put through to Phil Hellmuth. We will come down and get you.

Off the topic of poker, Vegas had a special visitor….President Barack Obama. I felt quite privileged to be in the same town and even closer the hotel next door to the President. He came into town for a charity event that was held at Caesars Palace. I can say that I saw Air force 1 taxiing at McCarran airport from my hotel room! Vegas and the Strip weren’t as chaotic as I thought a man with this kind of stature would cause. I did speak to a taxi driver the day Obama left and he mentioned that the freeway was shut for his ride to the airport. Out of sight out of mind!

Good Luck! Bring on Week 2.

Cheers,

Miss C

OMG it is here!

Tuesday, May 26, 2009 - Miss C

Hey All,

Got into Vegas a couple of days ago and I knew it was going to be a good trip when my flight got in 30 mins early. (Come on now, there is a big difference between 10pm and 11pm) Another bonus it was hot when I get here and that is just perfect (and the way Vegas should be), because last time it was cold! I was picked up at the airport and travelled in style to Bellagio. We had to go the back way as there is road work on the Strip, they are building and over pass and preparing for the new massive MGM Mirage property called City Center. (5 hotels)

I cannot believe the WSOP 2009 is here. People are coming into town by the hoards. I love it, during this time there is such a funky live vibe and it is ridiculous all the people that you run into. Even tonight when I went downstairs, I ran into a mate from Australia. I love how the WSOP brings people together from all over the world.

I am starting to think I may need a PA, strange I know, but here in Vegas it would be a god send. I am starting to put a what happens today list next to my bed. May 27th will see me heading off to the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino for Annie’s “Sucking Out on the Rivers” charity poker tournament. This should be a lot of fun. I am looking forward to my 1st social event of the season.

Tonight, I caught up with a colleague who just arrived and he is a virgin to Vegas and it was so cool to see it from his eyes. Every time I get here and I see the Vegas skyline it takes my breath. To him, he does not know which way to look as he wants to see everything. Lucky for him he is here for quite a bit so I am sure he will have plenty of time to see and do all his heart desires. He has put a list of things to do and I must admit that I have hardly even scratched the surface of that list. Agh the joys!

Good luck in Vegas!

Cheers,

Miss C

It’s a small world after all

Tuesday, May 19, 2009 - Miss C

Hey Everyone,

Poker, even though it has grown and in some markets it is truly saturated the poker world is still so small. I am originally from Australia and I am heading out to Vegas within a week and after being in the business for 15 years, you get to know a lot of people! The emails, skype and msn messages, sms’s and facebook posts are banking up. It is funny to see that the wave the poker world rolls on. Some people you see there every year and then others fade away and then the very next year they pop up.

Poker players…I love them and I adore listening to their stories. So much history and the way the game has become accepted and been brought out from the underground back room. When you catch them at the bar and you are sitting down chugging a beer and having a chat, it is like there has been no time lost. Many friendships are kindled at events like these. Some of my oldest and dearest friends in this world are poker players. Going to the WSOP is like a magical mystery tour….who will surprise me this trip?

After the discouraging numbers at the WPT back in April, I wonder whether this trend will impact the numbers at the WSOP? I do like the WSOP idea of having the 40K No Limit Holdem at the start of the 7 week long trek, but on the other hand I am really surprised that they are only filming 4 events this year- 40K NLH/50K HORSE/10K ME/5K AUFA.

On the upside, it has been 3 years since my last WSOP experience and I cannot wait. I must admit being in Vegas for what sounds like forever (8 week) scares the living day lights out of me, but I am a huge fan of the “de ja vu” feeling! I am lucky enough to be staying at my favourite place on the Strip – Bellagio.

Till next week, where I will be coming to you live from Vegas…ENJOY!

Cheers,

Miss C

10th Anniversary Excitement

Friday, May 15, 2009 - UB Marketing

It’s been a great week for the creative group. Somewhat chaotic, but it’s coming up on WSOP season, so of course there’s a lot to do. It comes with the territory of being an online poker community for 10 years. We’re planning some killer events for the WSOP to celebrate Phil’s 20th anniversary from his first bracelet and a 10th Anniversary party at the Aruba Poker Classic. It’s gonna be awesome.

To whet your appetite for what’s in store for the next few months, we’re about to add new table skins, one of which is pictured below. Get ready to feel like an emperor while you play at UltimateBet. Still not sure how to qualify for the Series? Our 50-Package giveaway is set for June 21st with a buy-in of $500+30 or through low buy-in qualifier or STEP 7a.

10th Anniversary Ultimate Bet Table Skin

One of our team members is meeting up with Scott Ian this week while he’s in LA. Which reminded me that he is going on tour starting June 13th and gets back just in time for day 1d of the WSOP main event. Ahhh, the rock-star life. We love our pros and as a tribute (not like a bad tribute cover band), we are revamping the pro pages on the Web site and adding a new face or two, so keep visiting the UltimateBet blog for more info.

The Vegas Experience

Tuesday, May 12, 2009 - Miss C

Hey Guys,

I cannot believe that I will be in Vegas in less that 2 weeks. I am so looking forward to catching up with everyone again. As I will be there for 8 weeks I am going to get into the Vegas spirit. The Vegas spirit to me (aside from all the cocktails) would be to see some shows.

MGM Grand has Fleetwood Mac, David Copperfield, KA Cirque du Soleil, Eric Clapton and Steve Winwood.

Mandalay Bay has The Lion King, UFC, Il Divo, Keith Urban and Pat Benatar.

Caesars Palace has Elton John and Bette Middler

Bellagio has “O” Cirque du Soleil

Venetian has Phantom, Wayne Brady

Mirage has Jay Leno, Love Cirque du Soleil, Ray Romano & Brad Garrett

Palms has Cheech & Chong, The Offspring, Duran Duran, New Kids on the Block

There quite a few options and I am sure there will be a few more hidden gems that I haven’t discovered. On one of my last trips to Vegas I got taken to see Air Supply (I would have had to be taken!), Hootie and the Blowfish (they were great) and Brooks & Dunn (not a country girl, but had an awesome time and was pleasantly surprised). Make the time to see a show, it is a great Vegas experience.

Another Vegas experience that you have to do is go to a Vegas club, words do not describe it. My birthday falls during the WSOP and I am thinking I will start off having beverages at Fix at Bellagio, they do the best passionfruit mojitos and then move to Pure and get a cabana outside

I love having choices and this is definitely the town to offer plenty.

See you there and the countdown has begun.

Cheers,

Miss C

Where we are at…

Tuesday, April 28, 2009 - Miss C

Hey All,

The craziness continues! Ever since I went to PokerNews Alpine Cup in Austria I haven’t stopped. Now I am coming to you live from Aruba!

There are some really good things planned for the APC 2009. As I have said previously, there will be 3 parties, lots of pros and some pretty good POKER! The schedule will be pretty similar to last year, which was so player friendly. If you wanted to play throughout the night it wasn’t at a scheduled tournament here at the Aruba Poker Classic. This year we have added in a 6 handed 2k No Limit Holdem and that is scheduled for Friday the 9th of October.

My next stop on the calendar was meant to be home – Australia and I wanted to head home the 1st week of May and since that is next week I can’t realistically see it happening! Seriously, where is this year going? It is hard to believe that I will be in Vegas within 3 weeks. On the Upside, our home in Vegas will be the MGM Grand. Come by, pick up your swag, register for the numerous promotions and have a drink. Go to the front desk and ask for the “Phil Hellmuth” Skyloft suite.

We will be having weekly happy hours in the “Phil Hellmuth” Skyloft, more details to follow shortly. Also the MGM have given us a great discount to off our players and we will send out that information in an email. To help you get back and forth from the Rio we will have a shuttle service. 2009 is going to be a great year at the WSOP for us and you.

See you there!

Cheers,

Miss C

Post Vegas and Beyond

Tuesday, April 21, 2009 - Miss C

Hey All,

Well it was great to be back in the City of Sin, but I have to say the weather through me a little. Maybe it was silly of me not to check the weather situation in Vegas before I left? I just thought, my 20th trip to Vegas and I know the seasons…obviously I do not. Spring time and it was cold and blowing an absolute gale. It even snowed south of the strip mid week. What is going on I ask you? Thank god for the passionfruit mojito at Fix, at least that was dependable:) Also a big thank you has to go out to the new Christian Louboutin store at the Palazzo, I love my new zebra wedges.

The next plane trip I take will be out to Aruba, can’t wait, it is site inspection time for the Aruba Poker Classic. This time round I am going to do a 1/2 day island tour so I can tell you what to go and see. On of the not so glamorous side of events are not leaving the hotel, which happened to me the last time I was in Aruba. I want to see the outside of the Radisson and I am not talking about the airport or our storage locker! Fingers crossed the weather will be better in Aruba than it was in Vegas! On the hotel front we will be using the Radisson and the Westin, there will be great poker player rates at both venues. The are conveniently located within walking distance of each other so at either venue you won’t be that far away.

The tournament circuit is an extremely busy one at moment, we are half way through the 25K at Bellagio, the EPT San Remo has started and it will lead into the EPT Grand Final in Monte Carlo at the end of this month, which is not that far away. The players of today have so many choices. If you are lucky enough to live close enough to one of the big ones you may not need a passport. Roll on the World Series of Poker….May 27 – July 15. If you are there for anything over 2 weeks I would suggest you looking at the Signature by MGM – great suites with kitchens, free internet and gym usage. We will have some great prices very shortly.

Wherever you are playing..good luck and I hope you get the lot.

Cheers,

Miss C
