“I don’t build to have clients. I have clients so I can build”

Saturday, October 24, 2009 - UB Marketing

One of Ayn Rand’s most iconic characters is Atlas Shrugged’s John Galt. He represents the idealistic counterpoint to the social structures. He was a true developer and a man motivated only by his own passion… He was a fearless slave of his own beliefs.

When it comes to our team, we like to think of ourselves as the modern John Galts of poker: we don’t provide a poker experience to have clients, we have clients so we can provide a poker experience. That’s our mantra. We’re unafraid of scaring the hell out of everyone with our ideas as long as they bloom from our souls’ depths. Poker is the blood in our veins; therefore, all of our actions are benefic for poker.

A brand management position is definitely not for the bleachers. Our marketing team is packed with people full of zeal. We’re the kind that zig when all the rest zag. It’s not always easy –that’s a fact– it’s simple to get dragged into the abyss of routine. When that happens, it’s not hard to see the light again. All we need to do is look inside ourselves and we’re back on track. We just remember how infatuated we are with the poker lifestyle and, suddenly, a new radiance bathes the usual, making it unusual.

We work very hard to break the mold. We live in difficult times where planet Earth turns faster every day. People run in circles, attend their daily chores, close deals, walk by and… forget to dream. We don’t. We dream all day long and that’s what sets us apart. Every single thing in life starts as a dream. Think about it! An engineer dreamed the computer you’re using. The building you’re in was the idea of an architect. Your clothes were sketched by some fashionista. It all starts as a dream driven by something way bigger than money.

So, feel happy to be part of a community that isn’t assembled around the idea of milking your cash out. You can be proud of being part of UltimateBet, a brand that cares for poker. Our absolute goal isn’t to please you. We’re at the service of poker. If poker runs through your system, then –ultimately– we’re also serving you.

Play for a Mercedes in Aruba

Thursday, August 27, 2009 - UB Marketing

Mercedes Giveaway

The countdown has begun for the 8th Annual Aruba Poker Classic. With just five weeks away we’ve added even more luxury to the UB 10th Anniversary event by having a special poker tournament with an ML350 Mercedes as the grand prize. There will only be 10 players in the final run for the prize, so make sure you qualify through satellites starting September 1st.

Separate from the Mercedes event, if you’re still itching to get to the Aruba Poker Classic, the final big seat giveaway is going to be our 50-Seat GTD on Sept 13th. We have plenty of ways to qualify for this event, so check the tourney schedule for specific dates and times.

Meet Team UB

We’ve had a bunch of exciting changes with our pros since the WSOP, adding Brandon Cantu, Liv Boeree, Billy Kopp, and Bryan Devonshire. The marketing team is working to embrace our pros even more by highlighting them on the Web site with a special section dedicated specifically for them. Be on the lookout next week for the new pros section of the site.

CMO May Update

Thursday, May 7, 2009 - CMO

WOW… another week of celebrity apprentice.
Annie Duke is holding strong to the very end.
I can’t wait to see the final episode this Sunday with her going head to head with Rivers.

The rake race is really picking up and players are starting to fight for positions.  With $500k up for grabs to all UB players I’m not surprised.  Not to mention that there is a $30k free-roll for the top 1,000 places.

WSOP this year is going to be incredible.  Look out for Phil’s entrance this year, it will be the biggest yet.  Don’t forget, on June 29th Phil will be having his massive party at MGM’s Studio 54 where we celebrate Ultimate Bet’s 10th year anniversary.  It’s amazing to see that  Ultimate Bet has been one of the longest running poker rooms in the world.

Creating a Tournament

Tuesday, February 24, 2009 - Miss C

Hey Everyone,

So, who likes to play tournament? On a personal level I am a tournament player, not a live game player. I am one of the lucky ones who have been involved in from the very concept to a super successful tournament nearly a decade on.

The planning leading up to these events would blow your mind, we are talking from branding placements to the logo on the felts. Then heaven for bid you are adding additional tables into an established casino…to gain more poker tables we had to lose other gaming tables. In a casino there are so many departments that need to be involved and in the end everyone has to be on the same page.

The property I was involved with had hotels, food and beverage, equipment, entertainment, PR, VIP service, gaming and marketing. Our weekly meetings kept us all on the same page and being the ring leader was an experience.  Every year the importance and growth of the tournament made up start our preparations earlier and earlier.  All this did was increase the momentum and your year would fly by faster than normal.

Then the day would arrive and the players would start wondering in. The familiar faces you come by, just at tournament times and the Pros who exude their presence and the new kids on the block standing in awe contimplating asking for an autograph. The room would be in a state of excitement and edginess. The big games start appearing on the interest lists and the railbirds curse the fact we put the big games at the back of the room with no rail in sight.

It ends up being an amazing fortnight and it goes by in a blink. It is such an amazing feeling when your body kicks into automatic pilot and you run on pure adrenaline.  There are parties, amazing final tables, bad beats galore, lots of dinners and drinks, but everyone is having a ball. Having an event that brings people from all over the world…old friends, new friends all here for the same thing.

Tournaments are the best time of the year for me when it all comes to an end…I curl up in a ball and sleep for 2 weeks and try to drink coffee again without getting heart palpitations. I say, “Bring on the next 1″ I love it.

Cheers,

Miss c

Another week, more amazing stories…

Friday, February 13, 2009 - UB Marketing

Big news this week, the recently upgraded $150k tournament on Wednesdays offered a $200k+ prizepool for a second consecutive week. This tournament is gaining major attention on the online community for its high level of play. This tourney is no joke… Not only it costs $1000+50 but you will easily find yourself playing with the most aggressive online players. Last Wednesday the happy winner was MAVFISH who is a young player from the UK who has a very good reputation on the live poker community of Europe. If you want to play this event, check it out every Wednesday @ 20:30. If you don’t have 1 grand to play it, you can always find cheap satellites running all week.

And for the big news…… UB is sending the first players to the WSOP Main Event. Anyone who would like to join Phil (in his chase for his 12th bracelet) ,Annie and the members of the UB team can qualify this Sunday @ 20:30 in the WSOP Super Satellite that guarantees 1 $12.000 package. Satellites are running on a daily basis with a $10 rebuy format.

Keep checking our blog, promotions page and newsletters because the marketing team @ UB has several ideas on the oven that are definitely worth checking…

See you in Vegas!

Ready, set , 2009 – but don’t forget 2008

Friday, January 2, 2009 - UB Marketing

Lots of marketing initiatives to kick-off in January and hopefully a fully energized team ready to support them.  You’ll see many of these initiatives posted on the UB Blog before the Super Bowl and over the next three weeks, right through the end of the UB Online Championship (UBOC).  Which reminds me, still two weeks to win your free seats, center-field, for the Super Bowl.  Check out the Wild Cards promo.

We’re all excited and looking forward to 2009, but I used my New Year’s day to look back and take note on 2008 suggestions from players.  UB got a lot of player support and suggestions throughout the year.  This resulted in many of the additional features and tournaments now available on UB, but other stuff players suggested is still in the works, including:

SUGGESTION: BETTER EMAILS OR MORE VARIETY – We’re working with new technology to improve messaging and make sure players can choose and customize the information you get via e-mail.  So, if you’re interested in reload bonuses that’s waht you’ll get, but if you’re only interested in reading about Phil Hellmuth, or you only want news about live events, you’ll be able to sign up for customized newsletters.

SUGGESTION: EVEN HIGHER VIP – RAI$E kicked off last year with incredible success.  Players have been cashing in.  For 2009 there are rumors of yet another level, a higher one, that will provide a personal concierge and exclusive access for top players.

SUGGESTION: EXCLUSIVE MERCHANDISING – A new line of gear is in the works.  Exclusive gear for certain RAI$E tiers and special gear for UB players that qualify for live events.  I love the idea.  Not only do you wualify for Aruba, WSOP, or any other great event, but you get decked out in exclusive gear.  It’s like being a pro for a weekend.  Maybe there can be huge quantities of Dom and dozens of uniformed models so it can feel like being Phil Hellmuth for the weekend.

SUGGESTION: MORE LIVE EVENTS - I had to include it.  But, I’m sworn to secrecy.  Some new events are coming…

SUGGESTION: MORE NAKED WOMEN IN ARUBA – This one we overheard in Aruba during the opening party on the beach.  Not much we can do here unfortunately, but now you know we’re paying attention, even with a drink in hand.

So, keep ‘em coming.  If you have a comment or suggestion for the marketing team you can send it through the support team support@ultimatebet.com or directly to suggestionbox@ultimatebet.com

Marketing team Christmas and New Year – what’s next?

Friday, December 26, 2008 - UB Marketing

The marketing office had christmas lunch together on Wednesday.  Secret Santa gifts of all kinds -no UB gear- and gift bags for everyone including Strawberry White Zinfandel (??), apples, grapes, and small treats.  The coolest secret santa gift I saw: a remote control helicopter.  The most uncomfortable: a black thong that was two sizes too small for one of the guys in the communications team.

Half the team will be out through the holidays, the other half will pick up the slack and eat leftovers at the office. Oh, and we’re having an XBOX World Cup tournament in the game room with whoever is around next week.  I’m a shoe-in to loose.

What are we looking at before 2009 fully embraces us all?  My favorite is the 100-seat guaranteed tournament this Saturday.  Easy way to qualify directly to the UBOC Championship event and the guaranteed 1 MILLION DOLLAR prize pool.  That’s about the same size as the entire Christmas lottery prize in Costa Rica.

Second favorite… $150K Guaranteed tourney next Thursday, on January 1st.  Perfect for post-party relaxing at home.  I’ll be working so you won’t get to knock me out, but if everyone celebrates the new year in full force, this may be an easier one to cash in if you’re not hungover.

My next post will be in 2009.  Hard to believe.  We’ll kick off the marketing year with our UBOC countdown, internal meetings to boost the player experience through RAI$E, and some finishing touches for our WSOP strategy.  Ugh, it’s not even 2009 and we’re already talking about Phil’s 12th, the grand entrance, and the whole UB community feel at the World Series.  Will it be medieval, tactical, sports-oriented, undercover, by sea, by air?  So many options, love it. Any suggestions for the WSOP in 2009?

Happy New Year and good luck at the tables.  See you in 2009.

CEREUS-ly more promotions in December

Friday, November 28, 2008 - UB Marketing

Oh happy day, CEREUS is finally here. And, while the “strongest technology on earth” powers UltimateBet and hosts thousands of players, we’re looking forward to December promotions. Bigger and Better. Here’s the scoop…

The WILD CARDS Super Bowl promotion is already visible and available. Mid-field seats. Yes. Forgot to put this detail on the UB website. I’m looking at the stadium layout right now and these are in the front two sections, mid field, lower half near to the turf. Ten tickets plus travel and accomodations to Super Bowl XLIII. It’s a shame the marketing team can’t play for these.

So, what’s coming after thanksgiving?

         • The points race will be back. We had it in October for $115,000 but for
December the prize pool total is $220K.

         • UB players will have access to GIZMO tourneys where you enter with
UltimatePoints and win anything from a Plasma TV to an HP touchsmart computer – very cool.

         • UBOC. We’re getting close and there’ll be even more options to qualify for
any of the events, including a 300-seat guaranteed tournament (right after christmas) to the
UBOC million dollar Championship.

         • Tournament leaderboards will be back. We missed them this week, but hey,
even leaderboards need a break every once in a while.

         • Poker H0 H0 H0 Christmas special. Need I say more?

Well, the schedule I’m looking at is actually quite long and robust. But you get the idea, tons coming up. We got some great promotion ideas from players through the UB newsletters, maybe we’ll get some here in the comment section :)

Bloggers Only Tournament Part II

Thursday, November 27, 2008 - Cardroom

To pick up where we left off last week, we’ve decided to hold off on launching the bloggers tournament for the time being. As you may have noticed, there have been a few changes around here so this week didn’t result in the response necessary to make decisions about the tournament structures. We would still like to hear your suggestions for a bloggers only tournament though!

For example, what type of format would you like to see? How can we create an enticing prize structure? Should we use tangible prizes or reward winners with seats at the 200K weekly tourney? Or is cash the most appealing option? If we set up a blog based tournament where all you had to do was come here to get the information, would you play?

Let’s here your thoughts and put together a tournament built around your suggestions.

GL at the tables.
