I feel like I was on a dream and it finished a bit too soon! Now that I am back in Costa Rica doing my blog again and I can’t believe that just a week ago I was at the beach with a background sound of the chips flowing at the poker tables in Aruba.
First of all, this was my first live event and I never thought the energy you feel there would be so intense. Second, I truly got to see a whole new face of what we do on a daily basis; all the guys that attended are in a super nice mood; I guess the scenery and environment there help to create this. And last but not least, there were some insane parties and activities that took place alongside all the poker.
On that note, I can surely say that the Icons where the ones who had the best deal there is! You can ask any of them that attended this year about the nice treats and good parties we had for them….. or, you can just take a sneak peak:

Plus, it is not bad at all to be able to enjoy the breaks of the event chilling at the Icon Lounge. We had food, drinks, games and some comfy couches to chill and talk poker. But there are not enough blog posts or cool pics that can really translate the environment that I lived there, this just doesn’t cut it! So as a personal goal I promise that next year I will get more of you guys to go there, you will thank me later. Think of it this way, even if you don’t have a seat to the main event we do have live satellites to it and many other tourneys and SnGs; plus you can give multipurpose to the trip and make a nice vacation of it. We expect all you guys to join us next year so we can have some Aruba Aribas!

It feels so good to help other people! You guys might think this is something we do every day, but actually, it is not true. At least, that’s what I think.
From time to time you get to know your customers in such a different way and all because of a problem they have. And if at the end you are able to help them, not exactly giving them what they were expecting, you end up with this amazing feeling that cannot be compared and then you know that your job is worth it and it means a lot to you, not as a employee or customer support representative, but as regular person with feelings.
Whenever you guys look for us, you are looking for good service and it is pretty logical, right? However, it all changes, when we are able to understand that this is not enough. There is a huge difference between “good service” and “help”.
A couple of months ago, I had this experience with a VIP player just like you. He had some serious problems with a disconnection that actually did affect him a lot and obviously he was not happy.
At the beginning, it was not easy. “Cordiality” was not a word in our conversations and we were only talking about the service he was receiving. We were going around in circles without getting a real solution and things were getting worse and worse every day.
This was a huge issue. Not only me, but many other people worked really hard in solving this matter. It took more time than expected and this did not contribute to the situation, of course.
But then, one day of the many I spent talking to this guy, I had the opportunity of really knowing him more as person and then everything changed. It was easier to understand what both of us were looking for and thankfully, this helped me a lot to actually HELP him.
That day, I finally understood that truly knowing a customer is equal to the action called HELP and this is the real deal of our job.
At the end, the resolution I had for this customer was nothing at all what he was expecting and please believe me; it was difficult for me to tell him about it. He was not a customer anymore, he was an important person that trusted me and as cheesy as it might sound, I was his only hope.
He impressively took this ok and understood all the things I had to explain. This was a relief for me and I was only able to thank him for that nice gesture. He said something simple like: “Thank you for being there until the end, it is easier for me now that I know you more” and that was just amazing for me.
I have to admit it; I learned a lot from this situation and it did help me in so many ways.
Now, I always do my best to really know more about you guys, just as all the people over here, I will be there until the end to HELP you.

“Hey Jim! Man I was just pushed out of a pot by a noobie holding 7-2!!” Believe me, I´m not kidding when I say I´ve recently heard a bunch of terrible stories about bluffs with 7-2.
Even though the 7-2 Leaderboard is over, an army of bluffers keep doing their job at these tables, who doesn´t like to upset their fellow players a little to take some of their money?
The last time I was bluffed with 7-2 was long ago (at least that I know), I raised four times the Big Blind with Q-Q middle position and this dude who had never came to our home game, flat calls: board K-5-10, oh damn! Why a King has to show up when I have Queens??
I didn´t believe his K, but the A on the turn simply pushed me out of the pot, he proudly shows the worst hand in poker… There was no side bet that time, but after these tables came to UB, I´ve been so excited that I will definitely propose them to have it on our home games as well.
It´s perfect, normally when you bluff with 7-2 you gain some respect from your friends, now the side bet makes it way better!
If you like to bluff and get an extra cash for doing it, give it a try, look for the cash tables with 7-2 next to their name. Hope they don´t catch ya!

I know the WSOP hasn’t finished, yet and we will definitely have more to share with you about this event in upcoming blogs. I mean, this was the first year the VIP team was there and rumor has it they had a blast with you guys, so why not to share it with all the UB family. My suggestion is: Keep checking the blog!
However, on this occasion I just wanted to write about something I know you guys care a lot: The Aruba Poker Classic 2009.
We all know for a fact that this event is already important within the poker community, but I have to tell you that everyone over here is working really hard, so only good and remarkable things can be expected for this year’s event. UB already had an empire at the WSOP and I am sure we will have a bigger and better one at Aruba.
You know what is the best thing about this event? Well, that our site offers many ways for you guys to make you way to this incredible and paradisiacal island. You just need to constantly check our site and mailers and that will be it. Winning a package, won’t be a problem for you!
We will also have these great and most important exclusive games for VIP players only. These will be running during Sundays on August and it is like the perfect game for you to make it. We will let you know about it for sure and just to give you a little hint: start winning and saving some points. These will be really useful.

On my way out for a special mission:
I am arriving on July 6th… just when the tournament is on its boiling point, when decisions made are the key of success.
I still can’t believe I am attending the most important poker event in the world; yes it’s my first time. So, what is the plan? Well, basically helping our staff, gathering feedback, listening, talking, meeting the players, having a drink or two, listening [again], working, doing the best I can to provide the best live assistance to our Valuable Players.
Most importantly I must say that the gathering of feedback would be awesome, there’s nothing more encouraging than meeting you guys live as well as listening your point of views regarding our job here. If you think that something needs to be changed in the way we provide our entertainment, just knock on my head and tell me what you think.
I have always seen the Series on TV and never imagine that I could ever be there someday. I must say that our VIP players are the ones responsible of making this a reality, We all really appreciate the constant support and confidence that each and every one of you have given us over the last years, we have earned that based on the great service that we provide.
Over the last few days we have all been calling the players that will represent us at the tournament, some of them are going for the first time some other s have been around more than twice. This combination of experience definitely makes us feel faithful of what is really going to happen in Vegas this Year; some of our players will win BIG CASH for sure.

Guys, long time no see! I haven’t posted in a while because I’ve been extra busy with other tasks, but don’t think I have forgotten about the blog! This week I think I will write about a host that has been with us for a long time now and she is really an important part of our team: Umma!
If you have ever had Umma take care of a case for you, you will know that what I’m about to say is true: even though we all work hard for you guys, it is tough to find a host that will take care and assure that a case is resolved fully more than Umma. She is certainly very detail oriented and she is always on top of what’s going on with our VIP customers.
Umma is well mannered and fairly silent, but when she needs to speak her mind she definitely will do so and she really makes sure she is heard. Her computer skills have gained her a spot in managing all the reports we do and the tools we work with. So every time we have a query sent in from any of you guys and we have a hard time looking into it Umma is called so she can think of ways to enhance our tools and make yours and our lives easier. She really is known for an analytical review of what we tell her and it’s amazing how she can come up with several different solutions for one problem within a few minutes.
Due to all this, she also is one of my “go to” hosts when I need to follow up on a case during the day. So I’d like to thank her here for all her help and assure you guys that when your email, chat or call is answered by Umma, you’re in good hands!

I have been working here for several years, and there’s always been a huge motivator that magnetizes me to come to the office.
Well…that is definitely the reason we are the TEAM we are. It is a pleasant experience having such good friends around… Good times, Bad Times we always have our share… but man, this TEAM really rocks! We always understand each other when any kind of situation arises, and that simple fact gives us the confidence and advantage of constant growth and it definitely let us work more as a whole than as an individual.
This strong relationship is exactly the same that we always share when dealing with our players. Just a friendly thing you know…
So as my title says, I am lucky to be here with the people I really care about.
