Getting back to the grind after Aruba sure isn’t EZ . The parties were non-stop and the best! The Dan Band was so much fun! The poker was non-stop, and Matt Savage and his staff /dealers ran the best tourneys I have ever played in. All the UB staff need a really BIG thank you for all they did…Melissa, Jo, Gustavo, and Ernesto just to name a few. You and all the other hard working UB employees that came from Costa Rica and all over the world make Aruba the #1 destination in poker.

The best way I know to get rid of the Aruba hang-over is VEGAS BABY !! I leave for Vegas next Thursday to teach at the WSOP Academy, http://www.wsopacademy.com, Nov. 6-8 with Phil ,Greg Raymer, Shawn Rice and a lot of other great pros. Attending one of these camps will surely help take your game to the next level . If you would like to attend our cash academy, coming up Dec. 5-6th, for FREE and get $1000.00 for travel, listen to my radio show every Sunday night at 9pm EST, “The Ultimate Poker Show,” on http://www.roundersradio.com. I will be giving out the passwords for the Sunday night $5.00 and free roll tourneys that can get you eligible for Vegas.
UB is also running steps for a 12k package for Foxwoods and a 17.5k for the Bellagio. I love playing these steps while I’m playing MTTs. The main reason is that when you play steps remember “tight is right”. I find if I am playing these with other MTTs it helps me play a little tighter, and anybody that has played with me knows that I need that. J A couple of nights ago I bought into 3 step 7s for 97.15 each. I lost one and built the other two up to a step 9 and 10. Last night I played the step 10 and chopped the Foxwoods seat with a very good player, “maximilian71”. I was ahead in chips so I got 8,500 he got 7k . My 291.45 investment in the step 7s paid off nicely, plus I still have my 750.00 step 9.
Hope to cya all in the steps soon or better yet loose your hang-over and join me in Vegas Baby…

Six days and counting. Every day we get closer, I get more and more excited. A few nights ago UltimateBet gave away a free Aruba package to one of my Rounders Radio listeners. Congrats to ” _MARTY_”, you’re coming to Aruba. On top of that, you’re coming to Aruba for FREE BABY. Marty won his seat through a free-roll promotion. He listened to the Ultimate Poker Show 9pm Sunday nights on http://roundersradio.com/ And now is on his way to Aruba to hang out with Phil, Annie and the rest of us for what I guarantee will be the best week of his life. Not only will Marty get his 3k for travel and a $5500 main event seat to the Aruba Poker Classic, but also a weeks worth of parties, beaches, great food, non-stop poker/drinking…and the best part of all, the people he will meet. Friends for life…now that’s priceless
Congrats again Marty cya there.
Last weekend I was in Vegas teaching at the http://www.wsopacademy.com/ with Mark Seif, Paul Wasicka and Joe Navarro. I love to teach along side of these instructors. I get to learn so much at each Academy and it’s so good for my game. Don’t tell these guys but I would do it for free. We are going to be running a new free-roll promotion on Rounders where one of our listeners will win a free trip to attend one of these camps. Do yourself and your game a favor and win this trip. It is the best way to take your game to the next level
A few days later we had our annual poker bash at my bar here in Madison. It was a blast. Susie Q and Scott brought up their crew from Chicago and Evil Crusher came up from Atlanta, along with 50 more from the area .I want to thank all who came and my bar manager Wendy for making it a great weekend. And congrats to “Momma H0″ for winning the tourney, good job mom!

I really love to play online poker, but one of the things I really have a hard time with is how some players handle bad beats. When a lot of players lose with what they think is the best hand, their first reaction is to berate the other player…. call him a donkey, a fish, even an idiot from northern Europe. Here are a couple reasons why I have a problem with this. One is if a player is playing bad, why do you feel it is your responsibility to tell him that his play is bad? Wouldn’t you want that player to continue to play bad? You should know that he’ll eventually lose all his chips if he continues down that path. That’s more chips for your stack! Second, just because you think what he did was wrong, might not necessarily be wrong! Poker has a lot of gray areas. For instance, if you flop top set and the Donkey flops a flush draw, when you bet and he shoves and then gets there, you want to break your laptop! However, in a lot of situations his shove was not a bad play. You have to take into account chip stacks, type of tournament you’re playing, etc. I was talking about this last Sunday with Annie Duke on the “Ultimatebet Poker Show” on RoundersRadio. She made another really good point. Annie said that when you see a player playing “bad”, try to see what he is doing well, because he must be doing something really well to compensate for what you think is bad play. After all, he’s still in the game! If you focus on the positive in what that player is doing well and forget about what he is doing bad, it will help your game. There’s a ton of information to be had. It’s always important to remember that you can even learn things from a “bad” player. It’s never too late to learn! Be a sponge, and try and soak up all that you can. This will help you take your game to the next level. See you at the tables……H0

Hello all:
Well what a busy couple of weeks it has been! My head is spinning (big 80’s hair and all)
As I’m sure most of you know, Annie Duke is kicking some serious butt on the Celebrity Apprentice. The girls won again this past week and Annie is still a strong contender in the game. I love how she steps up to the plate and just gets shit done! I think the girls are all just getting to know her – but for those of us who know her here in the poker world – that is just how she is! Look out for another episode this coming Sunday. I believe that NBC will only show one of the two hours this Sunday with a full two hour episode airing next Saturday on March 21st. Keep an eye out for some news on the UB auction site. We will soon be auctioning off some products from the Celebrity Apprentice on the site. Stay tuned for more information!
So Annie and Phil just finished filming the ever popular NBC Heads Up Challenge. It will air some time in May I believe. I think there was some fierce competition. It is interesting to me to see how mainstream poker has become. So many celebrities from the entertainment world have made poker a big part of their lives. I know Annie drew Brad Garrett in the heads up and Don Cheadle also was invited to play. I am thrilled that he wore the UB logo for the event! He and Annie go way back as they co-founded Ante Up for Africa together.
So Phil has been a busy bee. He has started to embrace the technology available to everyone today. I’m pretty impressed – I won’t lie! He now has a Facebook page, he has his own YouTube channel and has just recently announced that he is twittering! (is that even a verb?) Check it out here!
Annie and P0ker H0 will not be hosting The Ultimate Poker Show on Rounders Radio this Sunday (the great Hollywood Dave will be at the mic!). They are both teaching at the World Series of Poker Academy in Vegas. Always a good crowd with lots of poker knowledge flying around. P0ker H0 even told me he went to Vegas on a private jet!! I just hope his ego doesn’t start to get big! Actually – who am I kidding?? His ego is already big enough!
Well I think that is all for now – will be back next week! Have a super week and chat soon.
P0ker J0
p.s..did anyone notice how I didn’t manage to get a Bon Jovi mention this blog??
I couldn’t quite find a way to get him in there.

Well happy Friday!!
T.G.I.F is all I can say. This week has flown by faster than any I can remember. BAM it’s Friday again and I have to say I’m looking forward to the weekend. Not because it is Valentine’s Day and I have delusional thoughts that my hubby might actually remember – and shower me with flowers and attention. Nope – I’m not bitter!!
I’ll fill you in next week on the outcome!
So a relatively quiet week on the pro front. I think everyone is gearing up for the LA Poker Classic. I have a pretty full line up there including Phil Hellmuth, Annie Duke, Tiffany Michelle, Hollywood Dave to name a few. There will be lots of yellow and black – hopefully at some final tables too! Go Team UB go!
What you will see very soon is an onslaught of pros playing in the new STEPS tournaments on UB. After much anticipation, they are launching on February 15th! With more chances to win more tournaments with smaller buy ins – why wouldn’t we see more pros??!! Enjoy them – Team UB will be sure to.
So I have some cryptic messages for you – all will become very clear soon enough! Promise! There is a HUGE promotion launching in the next week or so involving our very own guitar playing rock star Scott Ian. This will be something you will want to follow – trust me! I’m a Bon Jovi fanatic – but this promo has me ready to say “Have A Nice Day” Jon – I”m an Anthrax fan now!
Don’t forget to listen in to The Ultimate Poker Show on Rounders Radio this Sunday at 8:00 PM EST with the great P0ker H0 and Annie Duke. They have a special surprise guest!
Well that’s all she wrote this week. As you can see I’m not feeling hopeful about Valentine’s Day but at least i know P0ker H0 loves me. He actually named a sandwhich on his bar menu after me – the “P0ker J0 chicken sandwhich” at Players Sports Bar in Madison. I really need to head that way and sample it for myself one day!
Have a great week!

Hello from the Pro Corner!
I can’t believe another week has flown by. I really must be getting old! Thank god for hairspray and back combing to keep me young. (Well young at heart – not necessarily when looking in the mirror!)
Anyway – all seems much quieter on the ranch now that UBOC is over. But the fun never ends! I now have a team of pros all gunning to head to Austria for the Poker in the Alps promotion. Without a doubt there will be more than a fair share of UB hockey jerseys running around the Alpine Palace – each with their own bad beat story. It is a really cool promotion and the pictures of the location look amazing! What I wouldn’t do for a week away in the Alps! For some reason I have pictures in my head of Julie Andrews running around singing “The hills are alive with the sound of music”. Ok I digress – time to change topics!
So a big football weekend ahead. Superbowl Sunday will inevitably keep everyone glued to their TV screens instead of their computer screens. I’m not much of a football fan – more of a Superbowl PARTY fan. Speaking of parties – the great P0ker H0 is having a Superbowl party at his bar – Players Sports Bar in Madison WI. I’m sure there will be lots of laughter, lots of beer and lots of fun! If you are in the neighborhood, drop by for a brewski! Tell him P0ker J0 sent you!
The Ultimate Poker Show will not air this Sunday in its entirety to honor the big day. Still listen in though to get the password for the Rounders Radio freeroll and $5 tournament. Don’t forget about the promotion I mentioned in my last BLOG where you could find yourself seated next to Annie Duke and P0ker H0 in Vegas in March!
Are you looking for a fresh new place to chat on the internet? If you are a poker fan with that competitive edge – why not join the UB Poker Leagues? There is now a new home for your voice to be heard. Check out the new UB Poker Leagues Forums. You’ll find many members of Team UB hanging out and chatting there.
Mark your calendars! Aruuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuba 2009 is confirmed. Pack your suitcase and don’t forget the suntan lotion. Block off October 3rd to 10th on your calendar and tell your boss you are NOT available for that annoying conference call. The Aruba Poker Classic – in its 8th year – should prove to be the best ever. On the heels of the WSOPE, we expect to attract the best of the best in the poker world. P0ker J0 will even be on standby to give out autographs. (Please no nasty comments about that last offer!)
Well I think that is all she wrote for this week! Enjoy your week and I’ll see you back here – same time – same place – next Friday!

Sunday, January 25, 2009 - Annie Duke
On Friday I headed to Sundance to play in an event there for Ante Up for Africa (www.anteupforafrica.org). We started planning the event back a few months ago and I decided at that time I would go to Sundance and come back on Tuesday to really make a trip out of it. My boyfriend, Joe, really loves Sundance. We went there a few years ago and he just is like a kid in a candy store when he is there. So I was really excited that we had such a good excuse to go this year. We were going to see a bunch of movies, raise money for charity, get some free stuff at the gifting suites, go to some cool parties and just, in general, have a an awesome good time.
Then the inevitable happened. Two days before we were supposed to leave Joe booked a job on In Plain Sight. Now I need you to understand that this has happened the last FIVE trips we are supposed to take. Well not a job on In Plain Sight specifically, obviously. But he has book a job on something. When we went to Italy he couldn’t show up till the middle of it last Christmas. When we went to Boston for spring break he left in the middle. When we went to Hawaii for ten days this summer he couldn’t even come at all…and that was after we had planned the trip with my brother for a year! I am not kidding. We had this trip planned for a year.
Okay…so I am super cranky that he could not come. I changed my trip to leave Friday and come back first think Monday morning. I made my friend, Glen, come with me. And off I went without Joe…
So the event Friday night was great. Don Cheadle, my cofounder of AUFA found out he could come at the last minute. He thought he couldn’t get there but then had to be there for a movie premier anyway. I got to sit next to him the whole night and it was nice catching up with him and his wife, Bridgid. I think the event raised a bunch of money though I won’t know who much till mid week.
But after that, when I woke up Saturday, I just wasn’t feeling great and, frankly, wasn’t having so much fun without Joe there. I mostly just missed him. Now, I met a bunch of really great people there including our hosts for the weekend Darrell and Erin. But I started coming down with something and found myself wanting to be home so I came back to LA Sunday morning, played the UBOC championship, and then did the Rounders Radio Show with P0ker H0.
Obviously it was worth it to go up there for the AUFA event but next vacation Joe better be coming the whole time!

Well hello from the Pro Corner.
Well what a week it has been. I think I have a few new grey hairs but all in all a good week!
Well UBOC ended and what a great turnout we had. The pros all had a blast playing in the tournaments – and probably enjoyed it so much more not having a bounty on their heads! I think the UBOC poker leagues really created some friendly competition between the pros and all were gunning for the win! Great job all around. When will the next UBOC get here?
Well it’s official – NBC announced Annie Duke as a contestant on Celebrity Apprentice 2 airing on March 1st. I wonder how the Donald will fair against the feisty and brilliant Annie Duke. Will Annie hear the words “you’re fired” for the first time in her life? Check out NBC on March 1st and follow the excitement. I’m pretty certain there will be fireworks!
Well how about UB’s own Michael Binger. In the land down under winning a final table! He went deep into the main event at the Aussie Millions and then went on to capture the title in event 12. In a marathon final table he came back from being the short stack to take it down. He takes home AU$123,840 and the coveted Aussie Millions Gold Ring. Congrats Michael!!
So last week I told you about The Ultimate Poker radio show on Rounders Radio with the great P0ker H0 and Annie Duke. Well this week I have even better news! How would you like to find yourself seated at a table in Vegas with Annie and P0ker H0 learning poker strategy from the best of the best? You guessed it – a seat to the WSOP Academy in Vegas on March 14th and 15th is up for grabs! All you have to do is listen to The Ultimate Poker Show on Rounders Radio every Sunday and find out what the secret password is in order to get you access to our Rounders Radio $5 tournament on Sunday nights at 10:00 PM EST – and bang – you are half way there! (did that sound like a Bon Jovi song to you??) Final table any of the $5 Rounders Radio tournaments on Sundays between now and March 8th and you’ll be entered into a freeroll on March 9th where the winner will walk away with a seat to the WSOP Academy AND 1K in cash for travel/accomodation. Don’t be sad if you don’t win this one – the 2nd through 9th place winners will walk away with a free one month membership to Pro Play Live where you will still get some great hands on training from Annie and P0ker H0!
So speaking of poker strategy – you don’t have to head all the way to Vegas to get it! Don’t forget about the Ultimate Auctions where you can bid on phone lessons with all of our pros. Check here for example where you can bid on lessons with any member of our online Team UB – Shawn Rice, Deb34 and P0ker H0. They have great tips and tricks to share with you so give them a try. If they try to tell you they are a big deal – just let me know and I’ll knock down their egos a bit!
Here is a testimonial from one of our previous bidders:
“I just wanted to tell you a little about my lesson that I won with Shawn Rice at ultimate auctions. It was great…My lesson with Mr. Rice brought my poker playing to a new level. Mr. Rice taught me things I would never have read in a poker book. The lesson finished with Mr. Rice giving me his personal email for when I have more questions. How cool is that!!! _Maui_
Have a great week folks!

The UBOC3 just wrapped up and I love this time of year as it’s fun to play the higher buyin tourneys. I am somewhat disappointed in my results and not super happy with my play. It seems when I do bad it’s often self induced. I know when I put myself in a situation where I am forced to guess it’s often bad for me. In the final 1k buyin, $1,000,000 guaranteed main event there was over 1,100 players and it paid over 100 spots. I was down to less than 200 players in about 54th place and an early seat player double raises. If you know anything about me I always hate the double raise play because you are putting chips in the pot and gaining no information on the others behind you or the blind hands. I have 2 red 9’s and I hate to reraise here and possibly have to fold preflop; I hate to just fold here and I decide to just call and see a flop. Now the button makes a pot size squeeze play, the double raiser folds and I am certain by the size of his raise he does not have AA, KK or even QQ, so I have to worry about JJ or TT and flipping vs AK and with the double raiser folding maybe the deck could be a lil short on aces. I take the gamble and call and he shows JJ. I am knocked out and hate the way I played the hand. I know I am supposed to fold the 9’s there and just move on. I know most all I can beat if there is a bluff (88 or worse).
The Best Damn Poker Show has aired and it’s bringing back many good memories. This show is without the star power of the first show and in my opinion is a much better show overall. There is a little less fighting with Annie and Phil and better overall poker playing. I don’t think any of the players are as good as several of the players of last year that included Gary “Debo34″ DeBernardi, Mike “WiscoMurray” Murray and Tracy “Fatcats” Scala, but overall there were alot less mistakes and really good playing. Keep watching every week as the show gets very interesting all the way til the end, trust me.
Also check out Rounders Radio every Sunday night at 8pm Est on www.roundersradio.com. It’s a great radio show with Annie Duke and Mark “P0ker H0″ Kroon with very entertaining guests. I listen to every broadcast and I even try and call in but the lines are so busy I can’t get through. I will be calling in the next few weeks, so if you have any questions for me or any of us please call in and ask away. We all love to talk poker and strategy and love to hear from people whom are serious about their game.
I plan on being in Vegas for the Super Bowl and I will be making a big bet that there will be a score in the last two minutes of the first half. I am currently shopping around for the best price. I have not made this bet in a few years and am very thankful I have not. The Cardinals sure look good to me getting 7 points the way they beat up Carolina and Philadelphia really impressed me. I am hoping to find some Arizona plus 7.5 somewhere before the game starts. I do think if Arizona covers the spread it will go over the 47 point total and if Pittsburgh covers it will go under the 47 points. This is pretty rare. Usually when you like the favorite you like the over and when you like the underdog you like the under. I think if Pittsburgh controls the game it will be low scoring because their defense will with it for them and if Arizona covers it’s because their offense is on fire like it has been in recent weeks.
Good Luck online fellow Ubers
