Hello from the Pro Corner!
I can’t believe another week has flown by. I really must be getting old! Thank god for hairspray and back combing to keep me young. (Well young at heart – not necessarily when looking in the mirror!)
Anyway – all seems much quieter on the ranch now that UBOC is over. But the fun never ends! I now have a team of pros all gunning to head to Austria for the Poker in the Alps promotion. Without a doubt there will be more than a fair share of UB hockey jerseys running around the Alpine Palace – each with their own bad beat story. It is a really cool promotion and the pictures of the location look amazing! What I wouldn’t do for a week away in the Alps! For some reason I have pictures in my head of Julie Andrews running around singing “The hills are alive with the sound of music”. Ok I digress – time to change topics!
So a big football weekend ahead. Superbowl Sunday will inevitably keep everyone glued to their TV screens instead of their computer screens. I’m not much of a football fan – more of a Superbowl PARTY fan. Speaking of parties – the great P0ker H0 is having a Superbowl party at his bar – Players Sports Bar in Madison WI. I’m sure there will be lots of laughter, lots of beer and lots of fun! If you are in the neighborhood, drop by for a brewski! Tell him P0ker J0 sent you!
The Ultimate Poker Show will not air this Sunday in its entirety to honor the big day. Still listen in though to get the password for the Rounders Radio freeroll and $5 tournament. Don’t forget about the promotion I mentioned in my last BLOG where you could find yourself seated next to Annie Duke and P0ker H0 in Vegas in March!
Are you looking for a fresh new place to chat on the internet? If you are a poker fan with that competitive edge – why not join the UB Poker Leagues? There is now a new home for your voice to be heard. Check out the new UB Poker Leagues Forums. You’ll find many members of Team UB hanging out and chatting there.
Mark your calendars! Aruuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuba 2009 is confirmed. Pack your suitcase and don’t forget the suntan lotion. Block off October 3rd to 10th on your calendar and tell your boss you are NOT available for that annoying conference call. The Aruba Poker Classic – in its 8th year – should prove to be the best ever. On the heels of the WSOPE, we expect to attract the best of the best in the poker world. P0ker J0 will even be on standby to give out autographs. (Please no nasty comments about that last offer!)
Well I think that is all she wrote for this week! Enjoy your week and I’ll see you back here – same time – same place – next Friday!

The Ultimate Online Championships started last Friday, and so far it’s been a really good ride. Event #1 was a PLO tournament, and I really am not that experienced in it. I must say though, I have fallen in love with PLO. It was such a nice reprieve from the normal NL tournaments I play all the time. I focused really hard and found myself at the Final Table. 7 handed and I get dealt aqq2 with the ace and 2 of spades in early position. I decided to limp because the table has been so aggressive, and I was sure to get re-raised. Sure enough the guy to my immediate left raises. It folds around to me, and I’m thinking he probably has kk or aa, so I decided to see a flop and see if it would be bad for his hand. The flop came A59, and at this point I’m thinking he probably doesn’t have AA, because I have one, so I’m thinking more towards KK now. I check and he bets enough where if I shove, he has to call. I shoved and he had AKK7, and I was eliminated. My read was on, but unfortunately he had the other Ace to have me outkicked and I finished in 7th place for $3100. None the less I had a lot of fun.
The next day, was UBOC Event #2 and it was a $320 NL and although I was eliminated fairly quickly in it, I actually won the MINI-UBOC event #2 that coincided with it. It felt really good to outlast 400 something players trying to win the title. The final prize was $3300 so overall it’s been a great UBOC so far.
There has been some added excitement to the UBOC’s this year with the introduction of www.ubpokerleagues.com. It’s a website that takes a designated group of tournaments and scores them like a league. You pick a partner and try to outscore other teams and win the side prize pools that are offered. Currently my team is in 3rd place of the UBOC League, and 2nd of the MINI-UBOC League. We would be crushing until Wiscomurray got 2nd last night in the UBOC #4 $530 NL event. There are still a lot of tournies left in the league and plenty of time to catch up though. I really recommend playing these leagues. They add a whole new dimension and incentive to play good poker. The UBOC Leagues are closed, but you can sign up for Low, Mid, and Highstakes leagues that run every week. Be sure to check it out.
Gl to Everyone who plays the UBOC’s and Bad luck to everyone who plays the UBOC League.

The year is coming to an end and what a ride its been. These last couple of days having Phil Hellmuth in town has been really fun. There was a lot of potential, but since Phil didn’t take his wife’s advice and leaving when he was supposed to (when I was +48 in chinese poker), the potential was lost. The next day we played the annual 5-5 PL Holdem game and to be honest there weren’t any crazy stories this year like years past. The worst hand of the night was when a player had 66 on a jj6 flop, and lost a 4k pot to another player with 77 when they hit 7 on turn. All the betting happened on river.
The beginning of 2009 will be really good for UB. I say this because of a new site that has launched called www.UBPokerleagues.com <http://www.ubpokerleagues.com/> . This site is unlike any other before it – offering league play for tournament poker. You and a partner play a designated group of tournaments and based on how you finish in each tournament, you are scored, and the team with the most points at the end of the league wins the prize pool. It is the same formula that used to determine the UB Leaderboard. The Ultimate Bet Online Championship is approaching and UBPokerleagues is running UBOC and Mini-UBOC leagues to coincide with it.
Right now they are running a $500 freeroll promo, to anyone who signs up for a league before Jan 3rd at 12:00am Eastern. I myself will be playing both UBOC and MINI UBOC Leagues, so I encourage others to do the same. The more teams the higher the prize pool. Most of the UB pros will be playing the UBOC and Mini-UBOC Leagues, so if you see them at a table, ask them if they wanna partner up. If anything is unclear or uncertain be sure to check out
